Echidnas, also known as spiny anteaters, are intriguing monotremes that inhabit Australia and New Guinea. These remarkable creatures possess a unique combination of features: they possess a long, tubular snout resembling that of an anteater, a sticky tongue up to 18 centimeters long that they use to catch ants and termites, and spines covering their bodies like a hedgehog's. Echidnas are the only mammals capable of laying eggs, and females carry their eggs in a pouch, similar to that of marsupials, until they hatch, making them an evolutionary marvel.
