Calcite Rhombs Gemstone
Calcite Rhombs or Optical calcite Or Icelandic Sunstone are transparent crystallised calcium carbonate originally found in Iceland.
Scientifically, they are used to demonstrate the polarisation of light and double refraction. It has been speculated that Vikings used both phenomena to help them locate the position of the sun on an overcast day so they could navigate at sea. Isaac Newton would later study the stone at length.
Unpolished, rhombohedron shape approximately 3-5cm in length
