Fluorite is the mineral form of calcium fluoride, CaF2. Pure fluorite is transparent, both in visible and ultraviolet light, but impurities usually make it a colourful mineral with shades ranging from clear, to green and purple. The Romans mined fluorite in England to make their tables and goblets.
