These burrows, known as "wombat warrens," serve as both their homes and a defense mechanism against predators, given that their sturdy back sides, reinforced by cartilage, are virtually impenetrable. Interestingly, wombats are also the only known animals to produce cube-shaped droppings, a phenomenon yet to be fully understood by scientists. These peculiar feces are thought to play a role in territorial marking, as their distinct shape prevents them from rolling away.
