A spring is a toy consisting of a helical spring that stretches and can bounce up and down. It can perform a number of tricks, including traveling down a flight of steps end-over-end as it stretches and re-forms itself with the aid of gravity and its own momentum. This spring has a diameter of 205mm and is 215mm high.
The creation of the spring was an accident. Richard T.James, an american naval engineer, was experimenting with tension springs when he accidentally dropped one. The spring hit the ground and kept on moving instead of staying still and the spring was born. James recognised the spring as a potential toy, going so far as to take out a loan and buy a coil winding machine. However, not all the credit can go to James, with his wife Betty coming up with the name that would soon be famous, the spring.
